There are many reasons why the water ceases to be hot. An electric hot water system, it could be caused by a failed heating element that could easily be replaced or a limit switch is tripped. In cases of gas water heaters, a dirty flame sensor could be the culprit. If the flame sensor is covered with soot, it might falsely detect that there is no flame. It then shuts off your hot water storage systems. It could also be due to a defective thermostat or pilot hood in gas hot water systems. When it comes to defects in the pilot hood, igniter, and flame sensor, the whole pilot assembly is replaced because these come in a set. These are the most common problem when no hot water and there is a time you need hot water repairs.

Unusually Loud Noises

When the gas valve is not turning on, it can make the water hotter than the set temperature or the opposite. For electric water heaters, the thermostat may not be functioning well.

Maintaining Your Hot Water Repairs

Most hot water repairs can be avoided by sticking to these maintenance tips that our hot water plumbers and specialists swear by. Flushing your water heater twice a year removes sediments that would eventually cause rusting. This prolongs the life of your hot water system and makes it work more efficiently. This is best done when no one is using the shower or dishwasher. Follow these simple tips for draining the water from your hot water system:

Step 1:

Allow the water inside to cool down by turning off the water heater. Flick the power switch off for electric hot water systems or set the thermostat and light valve to vacation or pilot lighting for gas water heaters.

Step 2:

To ensure safety and maintenance efficiency, it's essential to turn off the shutoff valve for the hot water pipe to eliminate any cold water and prevent incoming pressure from causing potential issues.

Step 3:

Open all the taps and showers, turning the settings to hot, which allows the air to flow continuously and effectively prevents the development of a vacuum condition within the plumbing system.

Step 4:

To properly drain your water heater, connect a garden hose to the drain valve, which is typically found at the lowest point of the tank, usually situated at the bottom of the water heater.

Step 5:

Run the flush to the floor drain or outside and pull the pressure relief valve to expedite water draining, while checking its functionality. Typically, this process takes less than an hour, depending on tank size.

Step 6:

Open the cold water supply for 20 seconds and shut it off again. With a bucket, catch the water from the garden hose so you can see any particles or sediments that would come out. Repeat the process three to four times.

Step 7:

Ensure that you securely close the drain valve and carefully remove the garden hose. Following this, tightly tighten the drain valve and diligently observe to ascertain if any leaking is occurring.

Step 8:

Turn on the cold water valve to fill the tank with water again and close the pressure relief valve. You may see some air bubbles and some hissing sounds from your taps or showers that were left open previously during this time.

Step 9:

When the hot water tank is completely filled up, you may proceed to switch on your hot water system, or alternatively, you can turn on the thermostat and activate the light valve accordingly.
